In part 2 of ‘How should I decorate a Dollhouse’ we are looking at which dollhouse accessories to use to decorating your hall, your bedrooms, your nursery and the bathroom.

Just look around in your own house. What can you see in your hall, in your bedrooms and bathroom? Imagine how bare your home would look if there were only furniture. Following are some tips on how and which accessories you can use to make these areas of your house look absolutely real.

Many people decorate the hall with a small table or a chest. Place a small doily and flowers on top them. Put a clothes tree and umbrella stand in the hall and a mirror above the table. A larger pot with flowers can be placed on the floor of the hall. A rug on the floor and pictures on the wall are also important parts of your dollhouse accessories for the hall.

It’s important that you have nice quilts and cushions or pillows on your bed. In the master bedroom you could have a pitcher and bowl on your chest of drawers and a little potty next to your bed. You can place table lamps on the night stands and place a small book on the night stand too.

As in the hall, remember to have rugs on the floor and some pictures on the wall.

Like in the master bedroom make sure you have nice quilts and pillows on top of the beds or in the cradle or cot. You may want to leave one of the drawers open and let some toys be visible. Place other toys on top of your chests and also on the floor. Other dollhouse accessories you can have in your nursery are a baby sleeping in its cot and small children sitting or standing on the floor. Small bottles and pots of cream can be on top your chest of drawers. Just imagine how your room looked when you were a child. There are many dollhouse accessories to choose from when it comes to decorating children’s bedrooms and nurseries.

Besides your bath, basin and toilet you need a shelf on the wall, a toilet paper holder with some toilet paper on the wall, a bathroom cupboard, a towel rack, a mirror on the wall and possibly a small white table where you can place more miniature items such as bottles of perfume, towels, mortar & pestle or a brush and comb.

The best tip if you run out of ideas, walk around your own home or notice what other people have around their homes.

Staining wood can be very rewarding, it can totally change the way the object looks. Basically you can stain anything in your home that’s made of wood. But of course some would be a lot easier to stain than others items would be.

For example; if you want a stain something that has previously been stained that might be somewhat easier than staining a previously painted piece of wood.

Lets say you have two different chairs one was painted, and the other stained. Now mind you of course That if you have a ton or varnish on the chair he will have almost the same amount of work as you would have on a painted chair. A painted chair requires multiple coats of paint stripper applied. Do not try to take the paint off with one stripping session. Let the paint stripper do the work for you and take off one layer at a time easily. When you apply the paint stripper onto the wood let it sit for a couple minutes until it bubbles or you can see it lift. At this point you can either take a specialty paint stripping blade which looks something like a triangle with a stick attached to it, and scrape off all the new stuff. This scraping should be relatively easy because you are not scraping off any Un-soften paint just the stuff that got softened by the stripper. Then paint it again with the stripper and repeat the process. I say again that the stripper do the work!

Once you have finally stripped all the paint off the chair now you can give it a sanding. while you are sanding examine the wood for misses of left on paint. Here you have two choices either put more stripper on which I suggest or or sand out the leftover paint.

Now that your chair is ready for staining you will need with you a soft cloth to stain with and some more fresh soft cloths to wipe with. I generally use a good quality rubber glove so my hands don’t look awful when I finish staining. but don’t wear such a hard glove that you can’t move your hands in it. Dip at part of the rag into the container of stain being careful not to get the rag to wet with stain. And start wiping on staying the same way you do shoe polish don’t forget this is not paint this is stain so you’re not putting on layers thick of material you’re just staining the wood not painting it.

Now that your chair has been stained you can choose a clear finish to put on top of the wood you can choose anywhere from a satin finish to a high gloss finish. If you want to do a nice finish then do multiple coats of clear on it don’t try to do just one. five thin coats look a lot better than two thick ones.

A walk-in bathtub is the perfect solution for someone who loves to take baths instead of showers but has trouble getting in and out of a low tub. An antique wood dining table will look silly in a kitchen devoted to more modern taste. Almost all traditional tables are made of wood, while contemporary tables can utilize glass or even metal. Put some time into thinking about what the table will be used for. If you envision your young children scraping the surface with a butter knife, glass might be the best way to go. 5) As travertine is softer, processing the stone is easier and this results in different types of travertine tiles (honed, filled, polished, tumbled, pillowed, chiselled edges etc). Most of the time marble tiles come in honed or polished finish. (Tumbled finish is only limited to smaller sizes)

6) Marble is easier to maintain in the long run and recommended if you have pets or children.

Overall, marble seems to have more advantages however, the price tag is much more expensive than travertine. Travertine tiles also have much more colour and finish choices just because they have fewer headaches in processing. Therefore the choice is between budget and application. As a conclusion, if you cannot afford marble tiles, go for travertine without hesitation.
